I have used this gadget to cross cut board and plywood ranging from 20" to 48" and it is awesome. It does not flex and once clamped it holds very tight. You can even use it as a clamp. You just lay it across the item to be cut, slide the jaw towards the clamping arm and when it touches you will hear a slight click and know the jaw is set. Once this is done you can then push the locking handle down to one of three positions (depending on how tight you want it). It can be done one handed as well. Very sturdy as it is made from extruded aluminum and the channels allow for other attachments (but you will not need them). I would recommend the XWJ Wide Jaws Fixture to extend the length of the jaws (but you can still easily clamp a 48" panel) and give it a better purchase.

That was the best part, getting more for my money than I expected...albeit by only a couple inches. (That's what she said.)

Update -- used this throughout a project that required a TON of routing - gouging out through-cut grooves for adjustable shelves on a portable desk. I used a small carpenters square to get it perfectly perpendicular to the edges of the work pieces. If someone is having trouble making it square, it is because they are trying to eyeball it, or expecting something that is a simple machine with small clamps on the underside to square itself. That is a physical impossibility if it isn't computerized.

It sounds like people who are giving the low-star reviews are only pushing the clamping mechanism halfway down. It is NOT fully clamped when you push the handle to a 45% angle to the face of the straight edge. It IS fully clamped when you push the handle all the way into a downward position, pointing in toward the center of the straight edge. If you only clamp it half way, then you aren't going to get a tight hold. The halfway clamped position is for final hairline adjustment. You press the mechanism halfway, then you can tap the straight edge to shift it by a few thousandths of an inch at a time. You adjust from the pressure-points, not from the center of the straight edge.

By every indication I can see based on my subjective experience, people who are scoring this product low are not using it correctly.

Great for cutting up large sheet goods

I have seen other woodworkers use these and read about them in a few books, but I never thought to get one for myself. Now that I have it, I don't know how I ever lived without it.

Mainly I use this to break down 4x8' sheets of plywood, which is what I expect most people are using this for. In that task it does a great job. Some issues I saw were that if your sheets are not perfectly flat it can be a pain to clamp this guide, but that is more the wood's fault than the straight edge. Also, my only criticism is that the clamping mechanism and handle feel pretty flimsy and at first I didnt have much confidence it would hold against my circular saw as I made the cut. I would prefer a more solid feeling metal clamp handle and mechanism, but since this one worked as it should, I guess its not required.

UPDATE (4/2/14): still a decent tool but having explored the market for these a bit more I would reccomendation the Bora version over these. They have much more robust clamp lever, larger rubber padded clamping feet, and the ability to clamp on angles to make odd shaped cuts even easier. They are also cheaper at the moment!!!

Very happy with this product! I bought this to use for cross cutting larger sheets of wood products (plywood, mdf, osb, etc.) and it has not disappointed. It is very sturdy, easy to use, and the clamping system has performed above and beyond my hopes. I have found the measurement guide to be accurate and unexpectedly helpful. I have also used it as a straight edge guide for several long router cuts (dado cuts to exact) and it has been amazing and I couldn't be more thrilled with this product.

I Can Cut Straight Lines!!!

I can do just about any DIY project on mechanical things like appliances, electrical work, engine rebuilds, and so on. On the other hand I can't cut a straight line worth a [CENSORED]. I've wrecked more sheets of plywood than I want to admit. I am so bad at woodworking my father in law, a master carpenter, won't let me touch anything with a saw blade.

This clamping straight edge is so idiot proof that even I can use it and get excellent results. Instead of cutting jagged nonsensical patterns, I can actually cut plywood into actual shapes with real names like squares and rectangles. Since this simple straight edge has an easy to use clamp, I can measure and line up the guide and let my circular saw do the work.

Now that I have added this to my tool collection, I no longer have an irrational fear of cutting plywood. I can jump in and get great results. Two thumbs up! Five stars. Hit the buy button.

Worth buying, but could be better.

Good tool, useful even with a few issues:

1) If you use it in the sun and rain for a few days the letters on the label will run, then the label will peel off. It would be better if the letters were laser etched.
2) Again, with outdoor use the adjusting parts tend to bind and jam up in the track.
3) The plastic parts are too flexible, so you can't get a very tight hold.
